Christie's of London
Christie's wine department specialises in truly rare wine varieties, and assists with a wide range of buying and selling needs, for customers all over the globe.
I worked with the pre-sale administrator, specialists and cataloguers, gaining a solid grounding in wine terminology. I also helped with English/French proofreading for the company auction catalogues.
Christie's of London
House Sales and Private Collections department
The scope of this department is almost infinite, spanning areas as diverse as furniture, tapestries, ornaments, glassware, antique garden furniture, clocks, scientific equipment, paintings from Renaissance to the Contemporary, and much else besides.
My work allowed me to gain an intimate knowledge of an immense range of subject areas and their terminology, as well as giving me a unique glimpse into the organisation and sale of such pieces at auction.
English Heritage, London
Cataloguer, Online Collections
I assisted the Curatorial Department in researching, writing, proofreading and editing technical data sheets in preparation for publication of the Collections Online Project, a task which involved transferring all the information in the archive from paper to electronic format, improving and expanding the information on each piece.
My work involved significant research into the individual pieces, focusing mainly on the history of the English monarchy. The finished entries were then displayed throughout the various English Heritage sites, as a source of information to visitors.
Sotheby’s of London
19th Century European Paintings department
I helped in the organisation of sales and exhibitions, and assisted the Specialists with Italian/English translations for the acquisition of Donatella Versace's painting collection. Practical on-site training was also provided in various techniques used by art experts, such as authenticating a painting, and recognising aspects such as the frame, signature, and techniques of individual artists.
I believe history is a vital part of our lives, and wrote a blog (in Italian) for a few years based on this belief, with entries as diverse as The Brixton Mill and the remains of London’s agricultural past, The culinary secrets of Leonardo da Vinci, and Venice: water demonic and divine. I have been contacted by numerous people over the years who have found inspiration in the words that I wrote. Recent updates make the blog now also attractive to antiquary and rarities collectors.
Other interest fields
My other fields of interest include culture and its related subjects, such as tourism and the humanities sector (philosophy and aesthetics, literature, religion, psychology). I also have a passion for fashion, luxury goods, rare wines and collectables.
I am trained and familiar with Pranic Healing and other alternative and holistic therapies.
